Mike Cass to leave Galaxy

Galaxy Brand PD Mike Cass is to leave Global and radio altogether at the end of May.

An internal memo from Richard Park obtained by Radio Today says a decision on a replacement has not yet been made.

The email from Richard told staff: “After working for fifteen years at the coal face, our Galaxy Programme Director Mike Cass has decided to take a well deserved break from the industry, and will therefore be leaving Global Radio on 28th May.

“I would like you to extend our appreciation to Mike for his commitment, hard work and dedication to the company, and I am sure you will join me in wishing him every success for the future.”

Mike started his broadcasting career at Leicester Sound whilst still at school and became a presenter back in 1991. He spent some time at SGR Colchester and MFM, was one of the launch presenters at Heart 106.2 and joined Galaxy as Head of Music in 1997.

Since then, he has worked as Programme Director for Galaxy North East, Manchester, Birmingham, and Yorkshire before being made Group PD for the whole network. Choice was later added to his list of responsibilities.

UPDATE: Radio Today understands Brent Tobin, Programme controller of Galaxy Yorkshire, will fill Mike's shoes until the full-time replacement is announced.
