Manford to host The One Show

Former Xfm Manchester breakfast presenter Jason Manford has been named as the new host of The One Show.

He'll co-host the flagship BBC One show Monday to Thursday from July, alongside Christine Bleakley.

The Salford-born comedian and presenter says: "I am thrilled to be part of The One Show team. My Dad put £10 at 500/1 that I'd get the job so it just made sense."

Controller of BBC One Jay Hunt says: "Jason looked instantly at home on The One Show sofa. His intelligence and humour strike just the right tone for the programme and he is an exciting addition to the team."

Like his fellow presenter Chris Evans, Jason has also presented on BBC Radio 2. Last year, he fronted Jason Manford And Friends, a two-part series showcasing the cream of the comedy acts from the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe.

He also announced today on Twitter that he is going to be a dad again.
