Radio 5 live visits Media City

BBC Radio 5 Live is visiting its future home in Salford Quays later this month to brief independent radio production companies, following the announcement of a £40,000 production fund.

The event, organised by Vision+Media will take place on July 29th at Media City UK.

In March 2010, BBC North Director Peter Salmon announced that 5 Live would be ring fencing a £40,000 production fund for Northern radio indies, in a bid to give the region a creative kick start, ahead of the station’s relocation to [link=http://mediacity.ws]MediaCityUK[/link] in 2011.

In order to ensure that companies in the North make the most of this opportunity Vision+Media, Screen Yorkshire and Northern Film and Media have organised an exclusive event with the BBC to ensure that both information and support is provided.

5live and the BBC’s Marketing and Audience Team will be at Vision+Media on Thursday 29th July to talk exclusively to indies and professional freelance producers about the fund, 5live and its audience.

Lynn Kelly, Head of Radio at Vision+Media comments: “5live’s move to MediaCityUK and their commitment to commissioning content with Northern companies represents a massive opportunity for indies, but how are companies across the North going to make the most of this opportunity? It’s essential that production companies get under the skin of the station to ensure that their ideas fulfil 5live’s needs, especially if they’ve never produced content for 5live before.

“Our event will answer these questions, and, we hope, give Northern indies the confidence to get the maximum return from this opportunity”
