Robert Sandall dies, aged 54

Former BBC Radio 3 presenter, Robert Sandall, has died after a lengthy battle with cancer.

The broadcaster and respected music writer contributed news and reviews to newspapers and magazines for many years, becoming one of the main feature writers for Q Magazine.

He also spent time as Director of Communications at Virgin Records and a presenter for VH1 and Anglian Television.

Robert left Virgin in 2002 to concentrate on writing and broadcasting interests, mainly about music but also about health issues which included his own fight with cancer. His Radio 3 show 'Mixing It' finished in February 2007.

A Radio 3 spokesman said: "Robert's musical knowledge was encyclopaedic and he was a fine wordsmith. He will be greatly missed by his colleagues."
