BBC 6 Music fans plan 6 Fest

Loyal listeners to BBC 6 Music are organising a party to celebrate the BBC Trust's decision not to close the station.

The event, on 2nd October 2010 at 229 in London, will feature bands familiar to 6 Music fans, comperes and 6 Music DJs.

Proceeds will go to Nordoff Robbins, a music-related charity hand-picked by the team for its match with the ethos of 6 Music, championing as it does the uplifting power of music.

Georgina Rodgers, 6 Fest co-organiser told RadioToday.co.uk: “This is very much a grass-roots event being put together collaboratively by listeners, artists and DJs to celebrate the station that we love. It will mirror the spirit of the station – diverse, interesting, high quality artists enjoyed by inquisitive, discerning listeners.”

Laura Payne, a fellow 6 Fest co-organiser added: “The campaign was started on Facebook, but as like-minded, passionate fans became friends, face-to-face meetings became the best way to co-ordinate the protest against the BBC’s proposals. We wanted to build on this team spirit by putting on a party for the dedicated people who fought hard to save 6 Music, and for the 6 Music DJs who are delighted to be able to continue doing what they love. ”
