Presenter to row the Atlantic

A BBC Scotland radio and television presenter is to row the Atlantic ocean, solo.

Niall Iain Macdonald, who hosts the rock and indie music programme, Rapal, for BBC Radio nan Gàidheal, aims to embark on the challenge next May.

He told the [link=http://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/Article.aspx/1852493?UserKey=]Press and Journal[/link]: "There’s no special reason behind the challenge. I just want to tackle it now while I’m relatively young, and it gives me an opportunity to raise money for charity.

“I am aware of the dangers and the hard difficulties involved in this type of challenge but, despite that, I still want to have a go.”

Previously, to raise awareness of mental health issues, he undertook a solo row of the Minch between Stornoway and Ullapool in 2008 and completed the row in 26 hours.
