Star appoints TA Major as PC

TA Major James Horspool is the new Programme Controller for Star Radio North East.

After getting a taste for the business in student radio, James spent nine years at Viking in Hull as presenter, producer and acting programme director. James moved to Radio City in Liverpool as deputy programme director and also spent time at Heart in Northampton.

His most recent post was in Afghanistan with the TA, where he is a member of the Media Operations Group, a specialist pool of people with media and publicity experience.

While in Afghanistan James was the leader of a combat camera team, which produced multi-media output for a wide range of media organisations. His team accompanied troops on a number of missions as well as reporting on the progress being made in Afghanistan including the building of schools, hospitals and bridges.

Following his time in Afghanistan James took a brief period of rest and recuperation before re-entering the world of commercial radio. He joins the programming team at Star Radio at an exciting time and with big plans for the future.

Of his new role, James said: “I have had a very warm welcome from everyone at Star Radio. It is an established local station, with a loyal listenership, in a part of the country that I really like and hope to move to in the near future.

“My passion is making great radio and I hope to build on the station’s output and I am looking forward to working with, and developing, a very talented on-air team.”
