John Suchet to replace Bates

Former television newsreader John Suchet will replace Simon Bates as Classic FM's morning show presenter, on weekday mornings from January.

Simon is leaving the national Global Radio station next year to join GMG's Smooth Radio, which moves from a regional network to a national station.

And although the 66 year old Beethoven fan has limited radio broadcasting experience, he'll inherit a morning show audience of millions.

John said: "To be broadcasting live, five mornings a week, about my favourite subject is a dream come true and I cannot wait to become better acquainted with Classic FM's millions of listeners."

Richard Park at Global Radio said: "John is a natural presenter and this, coupled with his infectious enthusiasm and knowledge of classical music, makes him the perfect choice to host our flagship morning show on Classic FM."

In Q2, 2010, RAJAR gave Classic FM, between 8am and midday, a weekly reach of 2.78 adults.
