Microsoft man joins Absolute

Absolute Radio have hired Microsoft's UK Director of Sales Paul Carolan as their new Advertising Director.

He replaces Giles Darby, who left Golden Square on Friday.

Mr Carolan started his new job at Absolute today (Monday 20 September 2010), and is coming back to radio after previous spells at Classic FM, the GCap group, talkSPORT, Virgin Radio and the BBC.

At Microsoft, he ran a 40-strong agency sales team and while there they were named Sales Team of the Year at the Campaign Media Awards. He also led the team to become the digital market leaders in customer service and creativity, as recognised by the IPA Customer Service Survey.

Absolute Radio's Commercial Director Chris Goldson says: "Paul joins us at a hugely exciting time and I know the radio world will welcome him with enthusiasm. I can’t wait to see him unleashed upon our business, and am particularly excited to see him take our already strong digital credentials to the next level."

Paul told RadioToday.co.uk: "The more I learned about Absolute Radio’s plans, particularly in terms of digital ambitions, the more I just had to be a part of it. I can’t wait to get stuck in and help guide the team to even greater success."
