Rock Radio to expand on MXR?

GMG's Rock Radio brand is expected to launch on more digital radio multiplexes around the UK, RadioToday.co.uk has learnt.

The planned expansion of Rock Radio comes as Smooth Radio takes a permanent spot on Digital One, leaving parts of the country with two versions of Smooth Radio.

To fix this, it is understood the Smooth Radio feed in Yorkshire (Smooth NE) and South Wales and the West (London) will be removed from MXR regional multiplexes and replaced by Rock Radio.

GMG Radio had no comment to make when contacted by RadioToday.co.uk – but it is thought Rock Radio may also launch in London on the Switch Multiplex, in the slot recently vacated by Smooth Radio.

Rock Radio broadcasts from Manchester and Glasgow on FM, and also on the MXR regional multiplex in the north east of England, sharing all output with the exception of breakfast and afternoon drive.
