Radio Manchester taken over

BBC Radio Manchester is offering listeners the chance to have their own slot on the station during a special day of programming in the New Year.

Auditions are taking place across the city to find presenters for the whole-day takeover on 3 January 2011.

Breakfast show presenter Allan Beswick launched 'The Takeover' this morning as the station team headed out to start auditions in a Takeover Taxi at locations across the patch until 12 December. Potential presenters are being asked to jump into the back of the taxi and do a one minute audition which involves them answering a question picked randomly from the special 'Takeover' box.

BBC Radio Manchester bosses will select up to 24 winners, judged purely on the auditions, who will then be invited into the station studios to record their programme sometime in December. Each of the listeners will have the chance to put their own ideas forward for their hour long programme and have their content overseen by a BBC producer.

Allan told RadioToday.co.uk: "I think it’s fairly safe to say that the BBC doesn’t often hand over a whole day of programming to its audiences so this really is a unique opportunity. We like to try new things on the station and sometimes it is good to step out of your comfort zone. I know there’s a lot of talent out there so I have no doubt we will get some brilliant programming on January 3rd."

Entrants have to be 18 or over and will need to sign a consent form on arrival at the audition. The station is looking for new voices, who have not previously presented professionally.
