Gem cuts listener fuel costs

Orion Media's Gem 106 has marked Budget Day by giving listeners the chance to buy petrol at the price it was a decade ago.

106 listeners in the East Midlands filled up for just 76p a litre this morning as part of the Retro Petrol promotion on the Sam and Andy breakfast show.

A massive queue formed after the secret location of the filling station was revealed on the show, with 106 drivers then getting a special ticket to buy their fuel at 2001 prices.

Mike Newman, Programme Director for Gem 106 said: "Now couldn’t be a better time for Sam and Amy to take a stand against the rising petrol prices. It is something that is affecting all of us. Retro Petrol is our way of saying thanks to our listeners and giving something back to the people of the East Midlands in such pressing times. This is just one of a number of exciting things happening on Gem 106 in the coming weeks."
