Swing show starts on Jazz FM

Jazz FM, which recently went national on the Digital One DAB multiplex, is to launch a weekly show featuring swing music.

Peppermint Candy will be presented by DJ duo The Broken Hearts and air for an hour on Thursday evenings from next month.

The show will take audiences through the musical story of swing, covering all sub genres from lindyhop, balboa and shag to neo-swing and electro swing interspersed with the latest in swing news from gigs, festivals and events across the country. Unusual swing lingo, histories and the day-to-day trends that swing has influenced will be highlighted each week from games, dance, food and fashion, the station says.

Amber Butchart and Nisha Thirkell, The Broken Hearts DJs, say:"We are delighted to be fronting Jazz FM’s Peppermint Candy radio show. Swing is a constant source of inspiration for us – a music and dance born out of tough times, which has given rise to a rich culture very much alive today. Our first DJ sets were at Speakeasy-style parties so we're really excited to bring this type of music to a wider audience. There's a thriving contemporary scene and our radio show will immerse listeners in the whole culture; music, dancing and style."

Richard Wheatly, Chief Executive of Jazz FM added: "We have been wanting to find the right moment and the right people to present a swing influenced show and to have found the Broken Hearts is a dream, their combined knowledge of the original era and its influences over the years is second to none. Amber and Nisha also bring a very welcome new voice to the station as we celebrate going national on DAB."
