A community radio station is supporting a Northern Soul All-Dayer, looking to re-create the atmosphere of one of the original Alfreton Soul events.
Amber Sound will also broadcast the evening sessions on-air locally and online.
The station told us: “In the mid 1980’s and late 1990’s Alfreton Leisure Centre in Derbyshire was the home to one of the biggest regular Northern Soul events in the country. Thousands travelled to Alfreton for the monthly events which were so successful they started a re emergence of the genre. Today there are dozens of events in the area every month.”
Organised by Glyn Williams, one of the original promoters, the event features DJ’s famous in the soul scene including some from the famous Wigan Casino and Stoke All-Nighters.
