BBC and Bauer win Music Week Awards

BBC Radio 6 Music and Bauer Media’s Wave 105 have picked up prestigious Music Week Awards at a ceremony in London.

6 Music was named National Radio Station of the Year, while Wave 105 got the prize for Regional Station.

Classic FM received a commendation in the National category too at the event, held at the Roundhouse in Camden on Tuesday evening. Other nominees beaten to the prize were BBC 1Xtra, BBC Radio 2 and Smooth Radio.

In the Regional Station category, Solent station Wave 105 fought off competition from its own sister stations Moray Firth Radio and Radio City 96.7 as well as Glide FM and Real Radio North West.

Most of the awards handed out were for people and organisations in the music industry – among them Atlantic Records were named Record Company of the Year, and Festival of the Year was Scotland’s T In The Park.

The evening ended with the presentation of the Music Week ‘Strat’ Award to Fran Nevrkla, who has been in charge of PPL for more than 10 years and seen around £1bn in revenues pulled in during that time.
