5 Live lets listeners control audio mix

BBC Radio 5 Live is pioneering a new audio feature for the coverage of their Wimbledon tennis commentary this afternoon.

Listeners can download an application which allows them to vary how loud background sounds are, meaning they can reduce the volume of the crowd and even players’ grunting noises.

The NetMix player has been developed by Fraunhofer and provides a live stream of the commentary on today’s matches in the women’s quarter finals live from centre court at the All England Club.

This year, 5 Live’s commentary of the most high-profile British tennis tournament is bigger than ever and features analysis from former Wimbledon champions Pat Cash and Jana Novotna.
