Sara Cox sets BBC Radio 2 breakfast show date

Sara Cox has confirmed she will launch her new BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Monday 6th July, with Tom Hanks joining her as the programme’s first guest.

The announcement was made on Vernon Kay’s Radio 2 show after Sara Cox took part in the station’s Ten to the Top quiz against Jeremy Vine.

Sara revealed that Hollywood actor Tom Hanks will be her first guest on the new breakfast programme, appearing to discuss the upcoming film Toy Story 5.

The new show comes four months after Scott Mills left, with the show having 16 weeks of cover presenters.

The new weekday show will air from 6:30am to 9:30am and will feature familiar elements from Sara’s current afternoon programme alongside new features created for breakfast audiences. Listeners will remain at the centre of the show, with celebrity interviews and regular features also planned.

Speaking on air, Sara said: “Please do join me for my very first Breakfast Show on Radio 2 on 6th of July. Three weeks today! Very very excited.”

When asked by Jeremy Vine how many alarm clocks she would need for the early start, Sara replied: “42. And it’s the first-ever Sara Cox Breakfast Show. I can’t wait – it’s so exciting.”

Sara also confirmed the programme’s first guest, telling listeners: “My very first guest on the Sara Cox Breakfast Show will be… Mr. Tom Hanks.”

Vernon Kay described Hanks as “the nicest man in showbusiness”, while Sara added: “Woody at Breakfast. Yes, cannot wait!”

The launch marks the start of Sara’s move into Radio 2’s flagship breakfast slot, with the station promising a new format featuring listener interaction, games and celebrity guests.
