MFR country show extends to Northsound

Award-winning country music presenter Helen MacPherson is joining Northsound 2 in Aberdeen for a new Saturday night show, alongside her Wednesday evening slot on the AM service of sister station Moray Firth Radio.

Helen – who’s been with MFR since the early days in 1982 – is apparently singer Daniel O’Donnell’s favourite presenter and is well-respected in the country music industry.

She has visited Nashville several times and has interviewed hundreds of top country stars, including Daniel O’Donnell, who said: “Helen is a great presenter with a real passion for country music. When Helen interviews it’s like having a conversation with a friend and she asks the right questions, the questions that I would want to know the answers to. She is a tremendous signing for Northsound 2 and I am sure the audience will love her new radio show.”

Helen said she was delighted to get the opportunity to produce and present a country show on Northsound 2. “The format and music is similar to what I do on MFR and I look forward to country music fans in the Aberdeen area enjoying the programme,” she said. “My programme is a must for country music fans as I include a great selection of new, old, American, Irish, British and local country music – my motto is if it’s good, I play it!”

Among Helen’s accolades are awards from the Scottish Country Music Fellowship, a lifetime achievement gong from MFR and a services award from the UK Country Radio Awards In 2006, she also received an International Country Broadcaster Award from the Country Music Association of America.

Gary Muircroft, Northsound’s Programme Director, told RadioToday.co.uk: “We know how popular Helen’s show is on MFR and it will be a welcome addition to the Northsound 2 schedule.”
