Garrison Radio goes on 10th birthday tour

Army station Garrison Radio is planning a tour of ten of its UK radio stations to celebrate ten years of broadcasting.

Liz Mullen’s 10/10 Tour will see the presenter broadcast a special show from each location, reflecting the everyday life of soldiers and civilians at each site.

The shows will be aired throughout the summer on Friday and Sunday afternoons and can be heard on Garrison Radio’s FM and AM frequencies or via the web.

“It’s a chance for Army people to find out what life’s like at other bases in the UK – to share experiences, memories and jokes” says Liz. “There is such a wealth of stories, anecdotes, wisdom and understanding at every military base and we want to reflect that.” The shows will also include music chosen by the people featured each week.

At the end of her tour round the Garrison Radio locations Liz is looking forward to extending the idea to the other armed services: “We plan to visit a couple of Navy and RAF bases to give our listeners a similar slice of everyday life in other branches of the forces.”

Liz, who joined Garrison FM in Colchester four years ago from the BBC, last year was at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan recording, editing and sending back interviews for Garrison FM from personnel away from home at Christmas.
