Double challenge for Wave’s Mark Collins

Wave 105 mid-morning presenter Mark Collins is gearing up for a 10 mile run in Portsmouth swiftly followed by a 200 mile cycle across South East Asia.

There’s less than a fortnight between the two challenges, which Mark is doing in aid of the Bauer station’s Cash for Kids charity.

The Bupa Great South Run takes place on 30 October, with Mark then leaving for Vietnam on 12th November for a ten-day adventure including the 328km bike ride to Cambodia.

Mark told RadioToday.co.uk: “I am an avid runner and cycler but these are going to be a huge challenges for me. I need to raise £2,500 for Wave 105 Cash for Kids to take part in the Vietnam to Cambodia trip but I’ve set myself a target of £5,000. I have even said that if I hit that target I’ll eat a deep-fried tarantula which are sold as ‘snacks’ on the roadside in that part of the world. I have supported the worthy charity for many years now, helping underprivileged children in the south.”

Among the fundraising Mark’s been doing is hosting Pop Quiz nights in various pubs and clubs in the local area. “The response from these establishments has been overwhelming,” he added. “So much so that I’ve had to limit the numbers of venues otherwise I’d be out and about every night with no time left for training.”
