Radio 2’s homecoming gig for Elbow later this week is to be put on a BBC Big Screen for fans to watch in the Manchester’s Exchange Square.
The live ‘In Concert’ show on Thursday night is being performed at Manchester Cathedral for a limited number of the station’s listeners following a ticket ballot.
Those not lucky enough to have got tickets can now watch the concert from 9pm on the big screen, through a partnership between the BBC and Manchester City Council. Local councillor Mike Amesbury says: “We’re really pleased that the BBC has chosen Elbow and Manchester for their latest homecoming gig and have been working closely with them to ensure the event in Exchange Square will be a night to remember.”
As well as airing live on Radio 2 in a programme hosted by Jo Whiley, the gig will be available to watch on the BBC Red Button and Radio 2 website. The encore to the show will also air live on BBC Radio 6 Music from 10pm.
Jeff Smith, Head of Music at Radio 2 and 6 Music, said: “Elbow’s homecoming In Concert performance promises to be a truly unmissable event, so we want to give Radio 2 audiences every chance to enjoy it whether they are listening on the radio, watching at home on the Red Button, being inside the Cathedral itself or soaking up the atmosphere watching on a Big Screen outside. I’m really happy that the addition of the BBC Big Screen Event in Exchange Square means that even more Elbow fans in the North West will be able to become part of this amazing night.”
