5 live visits Tottenham for riot special

BBC Radio 5 live is to broadcast from Tottenham in North London next week with a special programme about the summer riots.

Hosted by Victoria Derbyshire, the show will look at the causes and effects of the violence and looting and investigate what lessons need to be learned.

Rioting erupted on 6 August following the shooting dead of Tottenham man Mark Duggan by police. The disturbances spread to various English cities over the days that followed.

Contributors to the 5 live special will include the local MP as well as Darra Singh the Chairman of the Communities and Victims Panel established by the Government in August to look in detail at why the riots happened and what lessons must be learned.

For the first time ever, the broadcast will be used to directly input into an official inquiry, with evidence heard during the programme going forward for the report which is due to be published next year.

The debate will also be simulcast on the BBC News Channel on digital television.
