Final Score job for Lancashire presenter

BBC Radio Lancashire sports presenter Mike West is to replace Tim Gudgin as the voice of the football results on BBC Final Score.

He takes up the television post next week, after Tim read his final set of results on Saturday after 16 years.

Mike West has worked for Radio Lancashire for over 30 years, including as host of the breakfast show and now presents the weekend sport bulletins.

Gudgin, who is about to celebrate his 82nd birthday, says the transferring of the BBC Sport department to to Media City UK in Salford Quays was one of the reasons he decided to give up his job.

He said: “They have splashed out £875million on this Salford nonsense, even before you count the cost of transferring people. I don’t see what was wrong with Television Centre. I read that one of the men in suits said it wasn’t suitable for purpose, but a few million would bring it up to any standard you like.”

He now lives on the south coast and said he didn’t want to make the journey to Manchester after the relocation.
