5 live to air special on year in radio

A 2-hour radio programme to be broadcast on BBC Radio 5 live on Christmas day will look back at the highlights of 2011 across our industry.

It’s being hosted by Radio 4 Woman’s Hour presenter Jane Garvey and Key 103 breakfast host Mike Toolan who makes his BBC debut.

There will also be contributions on the programme from BBC Radio Nottingham presenter Frances Finn and former Radio Academy Chief Executive Trevor Dann, who until last month was the regular host of the RadioTalk podcast. Trevor’s production firm, Trevor Dann’s Company, is producing the show.

We’re told guests booked so far include presenters Chris Evans, Jeremy Vine and Simon Mayo, radio bosses Tim Davie, Clive Dickens and Moz Dee and industry commentators Emma Barnett, Gillian Reynolds, John Plunkett, Matt Deegan and James Cridland.

Trevor Dann told RadioToday.co.uk: “It’s a terrific example of brave commissioning by 5Live, a two hour celebration of the best in UK radio, BBC and commercial, from 2011. 5 live spends a lot of time discussing TV, newspapers, films, books etc. Now it takes a look an impartial look at radio. We think this is the first time the BBC has commissioned a programme featuring both BBC and commercial programmes, national and local.”

The Radio Review of 2011 airs on Christmas Day night 7-9pm and is repeated on Boxing Day morning at 5am. The producer is Ben Green, best known as producer of The Guardian’s Media Talk and Football Weekly podcasts – and is a TDC production.
