2DAY returns next month for BBC Radio 2

Radio 2 is to run its ‘2DAY’ schedule shake-up for a second year with a 12-hour specialist takeover on Thursday 10th May.

It follows the mixing up of programmes and presenters for a day last June to show daytime listeners the diverse range of programmes the station offers.

Bob Shennan, Controller, Radio 2 and 6 Music, says: “Last year we worried that dismissing our daily 12-hour schedule was a crazy move – but we took the chance, and our audience appreciated hearing a variety of different programmes for one day only. A massive 81% of the audience enjoyed 2Day 2011 and we saw a 98% increase in listeners going online throughout the day to explore the Radio 2 website. With 2Day 2012 promising to be even bigger and better, they won’t be left disappointed.”

Graham Norton kicks off the proceedings at 7am with British roots pop band The Musgraves and The Organist Entertains host Nigel Ogden, who will be performing one of Graham’s favourite songs on a Wurlitzer. And a special guest will be taking part in Tune With a Tale, sharing the story behind a song that has a special place in their heart.

Other shows including Zoe Ball teaming up with Big Band presenter Clare Teal, Steve Wright doing a soul special, and Vanessa Feltz co-hosting with reggae DJ David Rodigan.

Tony Blackburn also does a live show from Blackburn, Lancashire, with Janice Long and Mark Radcliffe – while Simon Mayo covers country music.

Breakfast presenter Chris Evans will be on at 6pm with a live show featuring Jamie Cullum, Bellowhead, Chris Rea and the cast of West End show Jersey Boys.

Lewis Carnie, Head of Radio 2 Programming says: “Our audience’s listening habits mean they tend to tune in at the same times every day, so they’re only exposed to a small amount of what Radio 2 has to offer. The feedback we had from listeners about last year is that they thoroughly enjoyed the day: with six in 10 wanting more of the same, this year we’re giving them exactly what they want.”
