Sony Radio Awards take place tonight

The radio industry is preparing for the biggest night in the calendar, as the Sony Radio Academy Awards take place in London.

Radio Today is hosting a special live webcast hosted by Editor Stuart Clarkson and radio legend Pat Sharp with the countdown starting from 5pm at radiotoday.co.uk/live

37 awards will be handed out in total, with a number of celebrity guests appearing to present the trophies.

There are also music performances from Gary Barlow, Alexandra Burke and Jessie J as the Sony Awards celebrates its 30th anniversary. Please note that the music performances will not be broadcast on our Radio Today Live stream.

The Entertainment Award category is expected to be hotly contested, with the oldest ever Sonys nominees – Beryl and Betty from BBC Radio Humberside – going up against the likes of Boogie and Dingo from Bauer Scotland, Dixie and Gayle from Real Radio Yorkshire, Adam and Joe from 6 Music and Absolute Radio’s Frank Skinner.

6 Music had a record number of nominations this year – including Lauren Laverne and Huey Morgan in the coveted Music Radio Personality category – they go up against Chris Evans, Christian O’Connell and Gemma Cairney.

At breakfast there’s a big battle for the top award between Radio 2, Heart London, Absolute Radio, Kiss and 5 live.

And in the Station of the Year categories, stations nominated in their respective TSA size divisions are Garrison FM, KLFM, Moray Firth Radio, BBC Radio Berkshire, Juice FM, Mercia, BBC Radio 4 Extra, BBC World Service, Radio City 96.7, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 6 Music and Kerrang! Radio.
