UBC wins major new contract from BSkyB

UBC will be providing 15 hours of live music programming to Sky Arts 1 HD and Sky Go channels around the Cambridge Folk Festival.

The company will also continue to feature the event on BBC Radio 2, as it has done for the last 14 years via Smooth Operations.

This year’s coverage, hosted by Mark Radcliffe and Zoe Ball, is considerably more enhanced with an increased production budget and, for the first time, will all be transmitted live.

UBC will retain rights to the audio and video performances and will produce DVD’s, CD’s and digital downloads of the shows for sale after the event.

Simon Cole, Chief executive of UBC commented: “We set as a priority two years ago moving our content businesses away from pure audio production and away from a reliance on the BBC. Developing our relationship with Sky has been crucial to this strategy and our coverage of Cambridge represents a model of how we will increase margins in the future with multiple broadcast customers and an ability to monetize content which we retain rights to”.
