Absolute Radio updates Blackberry Player

The latest version of Absolute Radio’s Player App has just been released.

It combines both FM and IP technologies – switching between online and broadcast audio depending on which offers the best signal.

It will either use FM, mobile data or Wi-Fi, and has a built in ‘Chat with DJ’ function allowing users to interact directly with the presenter in the Absolute Radio Golden Square studios, and with other app users who are streaming the station via the app.

Integrated BlackBerry® Messenger functionality enables users to send, share and listen with friends. This new version of the app, which is powered by Nobex Radio, replaces the previous Absolute Radio Player App for BlackBerry smartphones.

“Absolute Radio continues to redefine radio and our ambition to grow the Absolute Radio brand has been clear with our strong mobile strategy,” said Absolute Radio’s Technology Director, Paul Brown. “The integrated BBM functionality of this app offers users a unique and highly interactive way to engage with both the station and fellow listeners, and we’re delighted to have partnered with BlackBerry to bring such an innovative app to our audience base.”

“The ability for customers to connect, share and listen to radio with their BBM friends turns mobile radio from an individual experience into a truly social activity, which drives further engagement with the station’s shows and greater interaction between the listeners themselves,” commented Gregor Park, Head of Applications Marketing, UK, at Research In Motion.

It’s available now on Blackberry App World.
