Tony Horne joins community radio station

Former Metro Radio breakfast presenter Tony Horne is to join Newcastle community radio station NE1fm for a weekly show each Saturday morning.

Tony is currently hosting a networked mid-morning show, weekdays on Wish FM, Tower FM and Wire FM in the North West, but made his mark on North East radio over the last couple of decades. He left Metro over a year ago without explanation. It was later announced that the station had signed Capital FM’s breakfast duo Steve and Karen.

Tony is modest about his new show: “The last fifteen months have taught me many things. Above all though, there is no doubt that the people of the North East want to hear the Tony Horne Radio Show back on the air.”

Tony added: “I have nothing left to achieve in the North East market place but it’s clear it needs a rocket up its backside.”

Kev Atkinson, from the management team of NE1fm 102.5, commented: “It’s great to have such an experienced and talented broadcaster on-board. Besides from offering his iconic Tony Horne Radio Show to a local audience once again, he’ll also be complimenting our training programme and helping to develop the next generation of radio talent in the North East, a traditionally very tough place to get an opportunity in radio.”

Individuals interested in volunteering at NE1fm, like Tony will be from October, can get involved all year-round in both on-air and off-air capacities. More information is available via the station’s website.
