Mighty FM rises from the Dune FM ashes

A new radio station in Southport will broadcast for 28 days next month in the hope of securing a community licence.

Mighty FM, set up by former Dune FM presenters Dave Quinn and Trevor Ford, starts on a Restricted Service Licence from November 19th on 87.7FM

The duo, who will host the breakfast show, told the Southport Visitor: “We want to fill the gap left when Dune FM went off the air recently.

“Southport is a vibrant town and it needs a radio voice for its residents and many community groups. We’ve already had a tremendous and enthusiastic response to what we are trying to do and we have lots of ideas for the future.

“It will be a local station for local people, packed with local news, sports and features with some of the best sounds around, including music from the 1960s to the present day.”

Dave and Trevor built up a local following for their Sunday evening show on Dune FM, under the heading of the “Dave The Mighty Quinn and Tiny Trevor Ford Show”

Former colleague and presenter Dave Turley will also be on the station, which is asking for local people to get involved.

Ofcom had to close down the town’s 12 year old commercial station Dune FM recently by physically removing its transmitter, once the licence became invalid.
