Sony introduces new Listener Choice Award

A new category will be introduced at the 2013 Sony Radio Academy Awards, with the winner decided by public vote.

Any presenter over 18 can put themselves up for The Sony Golden Headphones Award as long as they present a regular show on UK radio, but they have to register first at sonygoldenheadphones.com.

logoRegistrations will remain open until 5pm on Thursday 11th April.

A leaderboard highlighting the top 20 most popular radio presenters will be updated in real time once voting starts on April 15th, allowing everyone to track progress. Voting islimited to one vote per email address and will close at 5pm on Friday 10th May.

The design of the award is based on Sony’s best-selling MDR-1 headphone range and will be presented to the winner at the Sony Radio Academy Awards ceremony on Monday 13th May at Grosvenor House Hotel. Second and third place recipients will also be recognised.

John Myers, Chairman of the Sony Radio Academy Awards, commented: “The Sony Golden Headphones Award has come about as a direct result of the feedback we have received from our members asking how they can further involve themselves with these prestigious awards. It is the public’s opportunity to vote for their favourite presenter and is open to any presenter on any station in the UK.”

In order to be eligible to register for the Sony Golden Headphones Award, the presenter’s programme must have been broadcast on FM, AM, digital terrestrial, satellite or cable, streamed or made available for download between 1st January 2012 and 31st December 2012.For full registration and voting terms & conditions, please visitwww.sonygoldenheadphones.com.
