Spark FM goes all female for Women’s Day

Sunderland’s University & community radio station Spark FM is celebrating International Women’s Day by going all-female for the entire day.

Every voice heard on the station from the presenters and newsreaders to the music will be female.

sparkfmStation Manager Corinne Kilvington said: “We’re lucky at spark to be able to turn what we do around and do something so marked to celebrate the day.

“We have a wealth of talent at spark both female and male and it’s really exciting to show off what we have in this way.”

International Women’s Day has been running for over 100 years and aims to showcase and celebrate the achievements of women worldwide.

Another main aim is to raise awareness of the many women still suffering inequality every day, both here in the UK and internationally.

Each year on the 8th of March thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women.
