
BBC Radio 5 live has been nominated for three gongs in the Freesat Awards, including best digital radio channel for 5 live Olympics Extra.
The national station has also been shortlisted for Best Coverage for a Major News Event on Radio or TV for its Lance Armstrong documentary, and Best News Channel along with BBC News and BBC World Service.
The full list of contenders for Best Digital Radio Channel are Absolute Radio, Insight Radio, BBC Radio 1Xtra, BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Radio 5 live Olympics Extra.
In total, there are 52 nominees across ten categories, including brand new awards this year for Best TV Sitcom, Best Factual TV Programme or Series and Best Coverage for a Major News Event.
Neil Midgley, chair of the judging panel said “This year the Freesat Awards will celebrate even more of the best of British TV, with two new categories for factual programmes and sitcoms.
Winners will be announced at the Freesat Awards ceremony, held in Central London on Wednesday 10th July, with a VIP audience of celebrities, media and broadcasters and hosted by comedian and actress Sally Phillips.
