Celador fights off UKRD in Warminster bid

Celador Radio Broadcasting has retained the local radio licence for Warminster, after a rival bid from UKRD was submitted.

thebreezeThe new licence, granted by Ofcom, will last for seven years starting in November 2013, on which Celador will continue to broadcast The Breeze.

The licence is the smallest in England and Wales, covering just 18,000 people in west Wiltshire including Frome and Westbury.

UKRD had proposed to extend the Spire FM brand into the area. Chief Executive Williams Rogers: “I’m naturally disappointed as I believe our application was a considerably better one for the local people of Warminster but I nonetheless congratulate Celador on retaining the licence for a further period.”

The Warminster licence has had a turbulent history, starting life as The Local Radio Company’s 3TR-FM. Since being sold by TLRC in 2008, it’s been owned by Laser Broadcasting, South West Radio, YMC and More FM, before being acquired by Celador and rebranded as The Breeze in November last year.

Ofcom will explain their decision on this matter within the next few weeks.
