Tay FM boss Gary Robinson to leave Bauer

Gary Robinson, station director of Dundee’s Tay FM is leaving the station after four years in charge to set up his own PR business.

He’s been with Bauer, and previously Scottish Radio Holdings and Emap for a number of years and has also worked at MFR, Vibe FM, Cool FM, Downtown and Kerrang!

tayfmGary’s new venture will be specialising in coaching, conference hosting, PR and marketing.

His replacement, from June 1st, will be Cathy Kirk, station director for Bauer Media stations Radio Forth and Northsound, who will also take on the additional responsibility for Radio Tay.

Cathy has been at the helm of Radio Forth in Edinburgh for seven years, and more recently at Northsound in Aberdeen.

Graham Bryce, managing director for Bauer Media, Scotland, said: “Gary has had a long and successful career within the Group, latterly as station director of Radio Tay, where he led the transformation of the business from a loss-making station to the significantly profitable and successful business it is today.

“Gary has done a remarkable job and feels now is the right time to forge a new career outside of radio. He will be sadly missed by me and the team and we wish him the very best success with his new business venture.”

Gary Robinson said: “Radio has been my life since leaving college in 1989 and I have had some fantastic opportunities to manage some of the best stations in the country.

“I took an opportunity to return to Radio Tay in 2009 and have worked with an extremely talented team who have achieved some of the best RAJAR and revenue figures in recent years. This is the natural point for me to move on and fulfil a long-held professional and personal ambition to start my own business.”
