Robbie Williams talks about Signal Radio

Signal Radio has celebrated 30 years of broadcasting to Staffordshire & Cheshire, with Robbie Williams admitting to listening to the station in bed.

“I used to listen to you under my duvet at night when I was at primary school!,” Robbie said in a special birthday chat with the Stoke-based station, talking about how he used to listen to the station when he was younger.

On its birthday last week, presenters were on the road handing out prizes such as tablet computers and nights out, with the station getting more celebrity endorsements from One Direction, Olly Murs, Jason Derulo, Demi Lovato, and Backstreet Boys.

Station Director Rachel Austin said “This has been an amazing year for Signal Radio. We’ve been out as much as we can meeting our listeners and getting them involved in our birthday celebrations.

“It’s just brilliant to see such passion from the listeners, many of whom have grown up listening to Signal Radio and think of us a friend, rather than just another radio station”

Assistant Programme Controller Aaron Roscoe was out meeting listeners during the day and said: “The enthusiasm our listeners have for Signal Radio is a testament to the hard work of our presenting and production teams.

“It felt like the entire TSA was getting involved in the party spirit and I’m looking forward to the big events still to come this year at Signal Radio.”

Here’s the launch of Signal Radio on September 5th 1983, thanks to David Lloyd:
