Birmingham-based BBC WM has a new station sound from today, as it replaces professionally-voiced sweepers with imaging featuring the voices of listeners.
Production company Fresh AIr has been brought in to refresh the station sound, with a new strap line – ‘The voice of Birmingham and the black country’.
Neil Cowling from Fresh Air told RadioToday: “We auditioned hundreds of people on the street and chose 16 people who’d never been in a studio before. It’s involved six months of work, over 24 hours of voice sessions and the writing of a station anthem.”
The station anthem features the voices speaking lyrics that fit over the tune of Billy Joel’s ‘We Didn’t Start The Fire’ – have a listen to it here:
