BFBS raises over £10,000 with Big Salute

A day of fundraising broadcast across the BFBS radio network has raised more than £10,000 to support five forces charities.

The 2013 BFBS Big Salute auction day was broadcast worldwide, with lots including Wimbledon centre court passes and tickets to a showbiz awards after-party.

Throughout the 10-hour broadcast, on 1st November, there were also interviews broadcast with representatives of the five charities that the fundraising was supporting – BLESMA, Blind Veterans UK, Combat Stress, FAB (Families’ Activity Breaks) and Veterans Aid.

Ernie Rowe, Head of BFBS Radio UK said: “The difference that the BFBS Big Salute makes to the lives of members of the Forces family can’t be underestimated, and I’d like to thank all of the businesses, organisations and individuals who supported us this year from the bottom of our hearts. It was a great effort that saw last year’s ‘on the day’ total smashed, and with continued help from the wider Forces community we hope to do even better next year. If you had a bid on the auction or donated an item or experience, thank you very much, it really is very much appreciated.”
