Categories announced for Academy Awards

The Radio Academy, organisers of the awards formerly known as the Sonys, has announced the entry categories and dates for 2014.

We’ll see the return of Best Specialist Music, Speech Personality and Best Interview whilst two new awards have been added – Local Radio Journalist of the Year and Best Technical Innovation.

Paul Robinson, CEO of The Radio Academy said: “The Radio Academy Awards are the gold standard for the UK radio industry. They are unrivalled as the highest reward for supreme achievement and recognition by peers and colleagues. The innovation awards are an important enhancement that will encourage talent and recognise the changing impact of technology on the radio industry.”

John Myers, Chairman of The Radio Academy Awards Committee said: “These are the awards that really matter and I am delighted to be chairing them for the third year in succession. They are given to the ‘best of the best’ but they have to be earned and the competition, as ever, will be tough.”

The Academy will be accepting entries from Wednesday 11th December 2013, and entrants have until 5pm on Thursday 6th February 2014 to submit their applications online.

Nominations will be released late March/early April and the winners will be revealed at the 2014 Awards Ceremony on Monday 12th May from London’s Grosvenor House, hosted by Radio 2’s Chris Evans.
