The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall visited Global Radio, BBC Radio and Bauer Radio in London this morning.
In Leicester Square, the Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall were met by Global’s founder and executive president Ashley Tabor, Group CEO Stephen Miron and Chairman Lord Allen before taking a tour of LBC, Classic FM and Heart.
Classic FM presenter John Suchet commented after the visit: “The Prince was really interested to see how we work and asked a lot of questions about how we select the music.”
They then met Capital London Breakfast hosts Dave Berry and Lisa Snowdon, Classic FM’s Aled Jones and Myleene Klass, and Jamie Theakston and Emma Bunton, who host London’s Heart Breakfast.
Emma Bunton added: “It was great to welcome The Prince and Duchess to the home of Heart Breakfast today. I hear that Charles had a lot of fun in the studios…perhaps he could stand in for Jamie when he’s on holiday – I’m sure he’d be a natural!”
Ashley Tabor said: “This is a fantastic day for Global and for British Radio; I’m extremely proud that The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall chose to visit Global at a time of significant growth and investment for our stations and on the very same day that we launched LBC nationally. A truly historic day for all of us at Global.”
At New Broadcasting House, Prince Charles and Camilla visited BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra. They were given a tour by Ben Cooper, Controller, meeting Nick Grimshaw and Fearne Cotton along the way.
The Royal party visited Radio 1’s Live Lounge and watched Tom Odell rehearsing for his Radio 1 Live Lounge performance that took place earlier today during Fearne’s show.
The Royal couple were introduced to Fearne and Tom Odell; and they were invited to use the camera (a PSR4 standard definition camera) to test out camera shots for Tom’s performance that will be visualised on the Radio 1 website. They both had a go and a source said: “Camilla was better on the camera than Prince Charles as she was zooming in and out of the shots. Charles was really interested in chatting to Tom and finding out more about him.”
Tom said: “It was a really bizarre morning. He was really nice and interested in what we were doing. I performed a bit of Another Love for him and he said ‘give it some welly!’. He was really cool. It was nerve wracking enough to come and do the famous Radio 1 Live Lounge and then meeting royalty. Amazing!”
Fearne said: “An amazing morning! Something that doesn’t happen every day and Camilla was great on the camera in the Live Lounge!”
They also visited Mappin House, home of Bauer Media’s Kiss, Planet Rock and Magic 105.4. Kiss tweeted a photo of the Royal Couple saying they were now playing “Royals” followed by “Fresh Prince”.
