Radio 1 bosses go on-air for questioning

BBC Radio 1 is offering Access All Areas to listeners during February, and will put department bosses including Ben Cooper on-air to answer questions from listeners.

Management will be appearing on Radio 1’s weekly Review Show with Edith Bowman, where Head of Music George Ergatoudis, Head of Visualisation Joe Harland and lead social media producer Laura May Coope will be grilled in the first three weeks. Controller of BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra Ben Cooper will then appear in week four.

The station will also have studio takeovers, special Live Lounges, the chance to control a DJ and behind the scenes filming. And a live simulcast between Radio 1 and 5 live will take place for Safer Internet Day on 11th February between 12:30-1pm.

This week daytime presenters Nick Grimshaw, Fearne Cotton, Scott Mills and Greg James are giving the audience more access and insight into their shows – each has a dedicated day when the audience will be able to watch the every bit of their show and hear everything that’s being said in the studio – even when the music is playing.

Rebecca Frank, Editor, BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra says: “We’ve got lots of special things happening in February all around the theme of revealing what Radio 1 is really like behind the scenes. As well as DJs opening up their shows like never before, for the first time we are giving listeners the chance to come in and create their own shows. The month is packed with special features and programming so it truly is Access All Areas.”

A number of Radio 1’s dance music DJs will host a fully visualised Access All Areas closing party from 7-11pm on Friday 29th February.
