LTR given permission to drop local news

Recently-troubled London Turkish Radio been given special permission from Ofcom to drop local news and programmes.

In a recent Format change request, the station asked to go from at least four hours a day London made programmes to at least 10 hours of programmes a day made within England.

The station also now has no requirements to provide any local news but should feature UK-wide information.

Ofcom decided to exercise its discretion to agree to the change saying the station is still providing a service for London’s Turkish and Turkish Cypriot community.

LTR stopped broadcasting in October last year after the power was cut to the station’s premises for non-payment of an electricity bill but the station is now back on-air.
