Two new community radio stations have been given Ofcom licenses for Sheffield – both proposing to serve Muslim communities.
Unity FM will provide a community radio service for Pakistani and Muslim communities within the broadcast area in Sheffield, whilst IMAN FM will provide a community radio service for the diverse Muslim communities in parts of Sheffield and Rotherham.
In Ofcom’s latest awards, four other groups wanting a licence were declined. They were:
- Fuzion FM (Pakistan Advice and Community Association), Sheffield;
- Hit Music Radio (Hit Music Radio Limited), Sheffield;
- ILM Community Radio (ILM News Limited), Sheffield; and
- Sheffield Community Radio (Sheffield Community Radio (SCR) CIC), Sheffield.
Ofcom’s Broadcasting Licence Committee team are currently working their way through 38 applications in the latest round of community radio licensing.
