BBC radio stations outsource social media

BBC Radio 4 and 6 Music have hired Somethin’ Else to update their social media channels with at least 100 posts per month.

The content agency, which recently handled the Twitter activity at the Brits, will provide supporting content around live programmes, editorial events and marketing campaigns on both networks’ social media channels.

“Given the size of the listening audience (1.95m for 6 Music, 10m+ for Radio 4), the scale of the platforms in the UK and performance of competitors, we have identified that there is considerable opportunity for growth.” said Jem Stone, BBC Head of Social Media, Radio and Music.

“The creative ambition displayed by the Somethin’ Else team, their experience in handling high profile, prestigious brands and their awareness of compliance issues gave us the confidence that they were the right partner for us” he added.

Somethin’ Else will create over 100 pieces of activity per month for each network incorporating up to ten campaigns. Working initially across Facebook and Twitter, the campaigns will extend across Instagram, Vine, AudioBoo, SoundCloud and Google Plus.

The project will be led by Simon Poole, producer at Somethin’ Else with content production by Kate Cooper-Owen and Alex Burnard.

“Our aim is to extend the content from BBC Radio 4 and Radio 6 Music and engage with audiences they aren’t reaching at the moment. Our work will be focused on helping these major BBC brands to develop the conversation with their audiences.” said Steve Ackerman, Managing Director at Somethin’ Else.
