Free Radio reaches £3m raised for charity

Free Radio is celebrating raising almost three million pounds for West Midlands’ charities over the last five years.

The station’s charity event Walk For Kids has also been nominated for a Radio Academy Award, after picking up an Arqiva last year for the same initiative.

And Phil Riley, CEO of Free Radio’s parent company Orion Media has joined the board of Midlands charity Acorns. He said: “We’ve helped to raise money for Acorns Children’s Hospice for 25 years as both BRMB, and latterly Free Radio, and to be asked to help support them directly by becoming a trustee was a request I simply couldn’t turn down.”

He added: “This is a great landmark. I’ve always felt charitable activity is a core part of being a good broadcaster.”
