Swindon 105.5 presenter Dave Woods will broadcast an election special from Brussels later this week on his community radio programme.
He’ll give listeners an insight into a seminar at the European Parliament for journalists from across Europe, which looked at the forthcoming elections and why voters should be encouraged to vote this time. Whilst there, he recorded the Election programme which will be broadcast this Friday, May 2nd at 6pm.
Dave, who is the station’s main volunteer News Reporter and Election Producer, told RadioToday: “I think it is important for us as a radio station to cover the elections. Visiting Brussels gave me the opportunity not only to visit the European Parliament, but to talk to current MEPs, those who run the Parliament and listen to academics on the history and future of Europe.”
He added: “Meeting journalists from across Europe; it appears voters in counties such as Holland and Germany appear to be just as sceptical of the EP as here in the UK, which is not often reported.”
The programme will look at the some of the misconceptions of the European Parliament, discuss the often low turnout at these elections and will also hear from the main four political parties on the stance on Europe and a possible future referendum.
This will be just one of a series of special programmes the station plans to broadcast in the run up to election day and will culminate in a live six hour Outside Broadcast on election night from the Swindon Count.
