Dixie blogs about Gayle departing Heart

One of the changes made when Real Radio rebranded as Heart was the breakfast co-host job on Communicorp’s Yorkshire station.

Nothing has been mentioned on-air about the replacement of Gayle Lofthouse with Emma Lenney (pictured with Dixie above), but listeners have been posting messages on Facebook wondering why the radio silence and lack of explanation.

Dixie and Gayle started breakfast today in 2009 and won a Sony Gold for best breakfast, and took home an Arqiva for best commercial radio presenters together in 2011. The pair were also nominated for a Sony in 2012 and another Arqiva in 2013.

Yesterday Dixie took to his blog and Facebook to explain to listeners what has happened. He also posted the link on Twitter to his website which says:

“Today I was extremely proud to launch Yorkshire’s brand new radio station, Heart. It’s been a long time coming. Thanks for all the support, I know it’s going to be great! There’s just one thing I want to address and as much as I would love to respond to everyone personally, it’s just not practical. So I’ll say it here and hope you understand.

Obviously, I used to work for Real Radio, where I presented the Breakfast Show with Gayle. We had a great run, it was a blast and we continue to be good friends. Thanks so much for all the love you gave the show.

It’s not appropriate for us to discuss the changes to the station “On Air”. Gayle didn’t want a big ‘Goodbye’ on her last day and I wanted to respect her decision. I, of course, wish her the best in whatever she does next but she can reveal what this is when, or if, she sees fit. As for me, I’m really looking forward to the future and am excited about my new show on a new station with Emma.

To those of you who are upset that we are not together anymore, then all I can say is this… I’m sure you understand that things can’t stay the same forever. We are both so proud of what we achieved in the last five years and hope you enjoyed the ride… I know we did! I hope you will now continue to support us in our respective choices.

All the best!
