talkSPORT to offer regional variations

Ofcom has given approval for talkSPORT to provide services in Aberdeen, Central Scotland and London in addition to its national DAB and AM station.

The extra service, at 64k mono, comes by adding the station to local Switchdigital multiplexes in Scotland, and the London II DAB multiplex in the capital.

The station has been unable to confirm to RadioToday what the intended use for the extra capacity is for, but owners UTV will be free to provide anything from a completely separate service to occasional opt-outs to cover local sport.

The application form for the changes in Scotland refers to the service as “talkSPORT Scotland–the regionalised version of the talkSPORT analogue service”.
