Tunein introduces social network profiles

TuneIn is attempting to make radio more social by including a following and profile section in its latest revamp.

May_07__2014_at_1008AMUntil now TuneIn has acted as a directory for radio stations and podcasts, but is now wanting its 50m users to follow each other.

Using the caption “This is Real Radio”, TuneIn now lets you know if there’s a new version of a particular radio show available in real time, and lets you follow radio stations and friends.

CEO John Donham says its now a full-blown audio network. He told Engadget: “We have over a 100,000 radio stations and millions of on-demand programs, and that’s a good experience as long as you know what you’re looking for. Unfortunately, however, discovering new content was a problem. There was no good indication as to what’s going on right now for all the stations that you were interested in.”

Listen to a recent RadioToday Programme below with TuneIn’s VP of Product Kristin George, talking about the future of the app with Trevor Dann.
