Radio presenter Howard Evans found dead
One of the founding members of Academy FM, and former KMFM presenter Howard Evans has been found dead at his home.
He was discovered by friends on Sunday after he missed his radio show.
His station colleague Horace Hotman told the Thanet Gazette: “I have had a sad day today with the sad loss of a mate and a fellow broadcaster.
“The handovers were fun and some people thought we didn’t get on but we did. I have known Howard for 20 years and Sundays wont be the same.”
Another Academy DJ Tom Brooks said: “He was a true gentleman. I just cannot believe it.”
Former colleague Kevin Field, who worked with Howard at TLR, KMFM, CTR and fieldMEDIA events told RadioToday: “He was a true gent of the radio industry. He understood community and how radio has the power to change and develop communities. Hearing his laughter is what I’ll always remember alongside the words “do you know what I mean”. A gent, a friend with treasured memories.”
Tributes are being paid to the popular local presenter on his Facebook page, including from Big Brother Voice-Over Marcus Bentley, who was a guest on his show, and who Howard was a great fan of, wrote: “Great broadcaster, proud to have known you lovely lad. Xx”
Rob Wills, Programme Director at KMFM: “Very sad news. Rest in peace Howard x”
